Funny

HM cracks me up
He recently had a...uh...medical condition Smile
Something that he had to go have checked
That we were worried about
But it's something that MOST people
Or I think most people
would never tell anyone about
They would maybe tell their spouse
and that would really be the only person
Besides the doctor of course
That would ever even know about it
Unless it became something serious

But not HM...lol....
He told just about everyone he knows well...lol...
I've been laughing to myself for weeks
Because I would overhear him talking to someone
In the other room or one the phone
Giving them the "update" on his condition
And just busting up
That he would give such detail to the whole world!

And even after he went to the doctor
And the Doc said it was nothing serious
And gave him some stuff to take care of it
It was even funnier!
Because he laid on the bed
And read the stupid little pamphet the pharmacy gave him
And laughed so hard reading it,
he was crying tears and doing his whole breathless laugh!
Oh my gosh, I was dying laughing too...but more at him than the info!
Most people don't think that kind of stuff is THAT funny! lol...

So if you don't know about his "condition"
Well... be thankful in a way
You don't really WANT to know
But if you're curious
Give him a call and I'm sure he'll tell you all about it! lol...

I'm being such a slacker right now
I should be working on my CTAP stuff
It's this technology portfolio
That I was supposed to do like....
*ahem*
Uh...
Like 2 years ago.... Open-mouthed
But I haven't
And because of that
I haven't gotten my Clear Credential yet
Even though everything else is done and ready to go
So I still have my Preliminary Credential
And I've taught for 5 years.... and already have tenure
But no Clear
Which is bad, and not good

But when I went to talk to Payroll last year about something
The lady there asked me about it
And told me
And this was not smart of her
But told me that actually, it didn't matter really
Because even with my Clear
I wouldn't get paid any more than I was then
Until the next year (this year)
So what's my motivation?
EXACTLY.
So this year, I got a notice
That said that I had to get it done
Or uh... well, or they would stop paying me and not let me work
Things like that
So I guess I have to do it now

It's just so stupid
One of the "events" is to prove that you can cut and paste
DUH.
Another one is to show proof that you know how to use the internet.
DUH.

So I can see how this woudl be useful for older teachers
You know, it makes them learn comptuer stuff
But for me, it's more insulting than anything else
And a complete waste of time
So that's why I haven't finished it
Because I sit down to do it and I get irritated
But I just need to get over it and get it done
So I should be working on it right now
But I'm not... see me? I'm not.
But maybe this will guilt me sufficiently into doing it soon...

So the result of HM going to the doctor
Was that they also checked other things
His elbow has been sore lately
And he was scared that perhaps his Valley Fever was coming back
Not good
So they check that and it's fine.
But what he DOES have:
is High Cholesterol Smile
They put him on some medicine
And considering the medical history of his family
That's probably a good thing even if he didn't have it yet

So HM won't have to change TOO much of his diet
He loves fruit and veggies
And he loves fish
But what he has to stop doing:
Is drinking butter Smile
I'm serious, you think i'm kidding!
I've caught him drinking the butter out of the bottom of the bowl lots of times
(why do we have so much butter anyway? good point, but still, no matter how much you have left, do YOU drink it? exactly)
He LOVES butter
And he puts it on everything--cakes it on in fact
For example, Do YOU put butter in your oatmeal?
He does.
So poor HM
No more Butter Drinks
it'll be tough for him

Love, love, love...

I LOVE my new computer
It's the coolest thing!
I spent all day Tuesday setting it up
Getting all our programs set up and all that
And let me tell you, it's so nice....
It makes my old one look like not only a piece of junk
But some kind of ancient dinosaur computer
Crazy...

For example,
This was so cool:
One thing I saved until last was the printer
I couldn't find the disk that went with it
And I was not looking forward to having to go online to look for one
And trying to figure out which one was right
and Blah blah blah...
Same thing for my mouse
I got a wireless one
Or rather a "friend" *ahem* bought one for me once
And I love it
But again... no CD could be found to install it

And maybe everyone else knows this
And I'm just in the dark
And you're thinking: ya lisa, of course
All computers do that now--where have you been?
But I thought this was so cool
All I did was plug in the USB cable that goes to the printer
And my computer did the rest
This box came up that said: this product is ready to use
It found the driver and all necesarry programs BY ITSELF.
It did this for both my printer and my mouse
and both worked instantly
I was floored
Love love love...

AND
it has a shortcut bar
Something that I have done myself for years
But it has it by itself already for me to use!
AND
It has a little bar that shows me the weather
and the news
and even has a TO-DO pad
And a notes pad
And a little screen that shows selections from my Pictures like a little movie
Love love love...

Anyway, I've been thinking
It's so odd to have kids in many ways
I mean, it's great
But I was thinking that your kids grow up with this entirely different conception of who you are
You have kids and suddenly you have this new identity
That previous to that, didn't exist
But it's something that never ever goes away after that
You can redo your whole life
Change and become a completely different person in so many ways
But you are still a parent.
Maybe a better parent
Or a worse parent
But still a parent to those kids
No matter what conception they have of you
Or who you were before
Odd...

So, it was bound to happen
And if there is some rule for when it's supposed to happen the first time
Or how long you are supposed to wait until you do
I don't know and still don't
But we finally did it:
We took Sadie swimming Wink
PHTO0229PHTO0209
PHTO0211PHTO0213
PHTO0219PHTO0224
You think she liked it? Open-mouthed

Okay, so I've read
And I've heard
And our doctor gave us papers that say
That you are supposed to not let babies fall asleep eating
And that if they do, you are supposed to wake them up
And set them in bed drowsy
So they learn to fall asleep on their own
And "soothe themselves"
I don't do this
But I try to I guess
I figure it makes sense in a way
Even though it sounds horrible
So today I tried it finally
Fed Sadie, and put her to bed
Whereupon she screamed for 15 minutes
And then I finally went and got her
Terrible of me...
And she fell asleep instantly after that of course because she had screamed so hard
And has not left my side all day
Everytime I set her down, she'll wake up 5 minutes later crying
And even now, she's in her swing beside my chair
And I got up to go to the kitchen and she started to cry
And then stopped once I sat back down... (smart girl...)
So there you go, that's how that theory went
I know I should be tougher and let my kid scream until she falls asleep
But hey, baby steps here... baby steps...
I don't think either one of us can stand it yet :)

On a final note
Greetings and farewell
BOTH at the same time
To a special friend
Probably HM's BEST friend
Farewell because he recently moved to New Mexico for school for 3 years
But Greetings to the newest reader of my blog Open-mouthed
He needs an internet nickname... what should we call him?
My first thought: Hilfinger!  But HF for short? It is done
So greetings and farewell to HF:
4th of July
We miss you already!

And last but not least
Special congratulations to my favorite step-son Dudey
Today was a monumental day
A red-letter day to be exact
(emphasis on the red here folks...)
Dudey cut himself shaving
Big news folks...
That one hair can give you problems sometimes
Wink

Okay, so this is REALLY the last thing:
When you look at these pictures,
What does it make you think of? :)

Be honest now... what do you think of?
Is it just me? Or do you think of monkeys? lol...
still cute though....

Got $4000???

Want to see something crazy?
This is courtesy of Darren
Who was scouting houses in TN
Because ST and him are moving there soon

So here,  go to this address:  www.realestate.aol.com
Then, search for houses in Memphis, TN
And set the maximum price at like $5000 or maybe $10,000
Then click "Find Listings"
And wha-la... need a house?

I have no idea where these houses are located
Or what shape they are in
But HEAVENS
You would think those were used car prices!
Makes me want to buy one just to do it!
It's so tempting!
Say it's your "summer home" or whatever
Housing market is just crazy!

I mean, I set it at 5000 as the maximum price
and number 9 on the list: 3053 Morningview Dr
3 bedrooms, 2 baths
Built in 1973
is going for $35
Not 350
Not 3500
Not 35,000
$35
35 house
I'll take it!
I mean, I paid more for the movies last time I went!
What's the catch?
Who knows but take a look,
This isn't the only one...

CRAZY just to see houses for these prices
It's just easy on the eyes ya know?
It's fun to play on and imagine buying a house for $35... or $1000...
Or having a house payment of like.... $20
I mean, if you were buying this house for $35
You would have to "come up with" a whopping $3.50 for your downpayment
I wonder if they would even give you an interest rate? LOL...
Just think! You could tell people:
I am 28 years old, I own 4 houses
And they are all paid off
Thanks to my job at KFC... :)
It would be a great conversation piece...

k, this is just too fun to play with:
If you click on "See comparable homes"
On the right hand side of the listing
It brings up a bunch more info
For example, this graph:

the Memphis, TN market

Number of homes for sale

3928

Number of sales last month

1

Average market value

$110,913

Average list price

$181,937
Hmmm... I wonder why no one is buying houses there...LOL...

12 hours old

This is backtracking a bit,  but we just got them this last week
This is Sadie at roughly 12 hours old
12 hours 212 hours 312 hours
Isn't that crazy?  She looks so different now... but still the same all at once

Because that would be 7

Our pool has been interesting this last week
Over the last month I think it's had well over a hundred little bodies in it
Which is great except that we no longer have a pool guy
To come and do all the cholrine maintenance and stuff
Stuff we don't really know much about
So we've been trying to figure out how to maintian our pool
And in the process, it's turned kinda green... Surprised

So we tried a bunch of things
Lots of chlorine
and finally this shock treatement
that finally worked pretty good
but the thing that we finally found
that was wrong
that made us lose a lot of faith
in our pool guy
See, they opened up the pool filter-like the actual tank thing on the side of the house and found some gross surprises:
100_1386
ya... see, those are supposed to be white... or at least not a caked on brownish green
100_1384
So after a lot of cleaning...
100_1387100_1385
Our pool filter is working much better!
And our pool looks better than ever :)
Okay, so back to more baby pictures:
Sadie sure loves her swing
I must admit she's slept in it overnight
On numerous occasions
Last night she was fussing
Wouldn't go to sleep
And was just wide awake
I was dead tired on the other hand
And so I put her in her swing next to her bed
And I went to sleep
And I assume that eventually
So did she because she never cried again until hours later
100_1340100_1342

So I finally got sick of it
Finally broke down
and bought a new computer
This laptop is about 5 years old... or 6...
And has been carted all over the country:
Forensics tournaments, Philidelphia for nationals
SLC for Nationals, Utah more times than I can count
And the last two years of just sitting at home on my desk

The C key has been broken off for about 2-3 years
You just have to touch the sensor to get the letter
And yesterday the X key also broke off
It's had the whole hard drive reinstalled
And lately it's been doing worse and worse
To the point I wonder if we'll even make it another week
And basically has no memory left
what with all the photos and files and programs we accumulated

So I finally bought a desktop
The first one I have ever had
And it is due to be shipped next Monday
YAY!
We'll still have this one if we need it
But soon we will have a new computer
A Dell Inspiron 530
Probably not the most tricked out compter out there
But definitely enough for what we need around here
And definitely a whole lot newer than this pool old girl
It even has a built in webcam...ooohhh...ahhhhhh....

So we're off to Utah this weekend
Sure will be good to see the whole family!
See you there!

Read ahead

I must admit
I have always kinda made fun of people
in the most loving way possible
of people's blogs that seem to be
nothing more than a photo album

So I figure this is the payback I get
for poking fun at people
Because here I am doing the same thing!

So much has happened in the last 3 weeks
And there have been all kinds of people here
Providing so many photo opportunities Open-mouthed

So pardon my use of my blog
as a big photo album
But the next FIVE ENTRIES
are a brief pictorial summary of the events around here
Pray that the narrative will also be recorded
someday...
ENJOY!

The Sealing

We did it!
We finally made it to the LA temple
Where we were sealed as a family
Such an amazing experience
And such a relief to have it all done at last

The Spray Park

Here in Btown, someone finally got smart
And invented a new type of park
It's called a "Spray Park"
And it's genius
100_1215
The only problem with this place
Is that there are about a million photo opportunities
Every second
100_1186
The other problem is that there are other
other kids
who are also running around the park
so many of your pictures end up being
of other people's kids :)
Kinda funny...

But this park is AMAZING
And the kids LOVED IT
I highly recommend it to anyone with kids
Heck, I recommend it to ANYONE

Here are some of my favorites:
100_1182
100_1202
100_1206
100_1216

By far though
The people that seemed to love the park
THE MOST were
Tom
100_1227100_1235
100_1193100_1208
and Wil:
100_1229100_1185
100_1239100_1237
100_1212
Wil loved to run through all the sprayers
As you can see
But then he would get tired and go sit on the benches
This lady was sitting there watching her grandkids
And Wil went and sat by her
And as we watched
He reached into her cup
(we found out later it contained some french fries)
And started eating
Momma and I were watching from the other side
When the lady turned around and saw him eating them
She scooted the cup closer to him
And continued talking on her cell phone
100_1244
No worries...

So Wil would go play in the water
Then come back to sit by his new friend
And eat her fries for her

Blessing

Congratulations to Sadie
She was blessed Sunday by her Daddy

It's was Sadie's first time at church and she did so well
She slept through it all mostly
And did super good but...
By the time we got home, she had had enough:

But her dress is sure pretty!

It's apparently an exhausting experience
for both Grandpas
