Changing my name

Changing your name after you get married is one of those little evils that I have never really heard much about.  I feel really cranky and made right now... I went to the Social Security office to apply for a new SS card... things went fine... no worries...

Then I go to the DMV for the same reason and the lady tells me:
No, we won't accept this Marriage certificate, we need one with a stamp on it... Grr...

So I drive all the way home, grab another copy that I thought would work.

So I go to the first lady

No, sorry not this one either
WELL WHICH ONE???
She says to hold on, goes and shows it to another lady
She comes back, okay, sure, this one will work.  Fill out this application and go to this window.

The lady at the window goes:
Oh sorry, this isn't the one we need, you'll have to bring a different one. We need one that says Clark County on it.
Well talk to the lady who said it was okay then...
What lady?
That one...
Oh, okay, go to this other window then...

So I go to another window:
This man comes up to me and talks to me like I'm five years old
(which my father will attest I never liked even when I WAS five years old)
"We need the one that is kinda blue and you write to this address..."
(Thanks, I can read just fine.)
Why does this not work? The SS office used it, it says my name, it's stamped with an official seal.
We need the one that looks kinda blue-ish
(This whole time he has not actually looked at me once, he just looked at the ceiling.  Gr..)
Fine.  What time do you guys close?
Five
And what time is it now?
Five.
So you're closed actually right now?
Yes
Well thanks a lot

I walk to the door and there is a security guard standing in front of it.
As I go to walk out the door he says something about a door but I can't really hear him
As I touch the door he leans over and says to me very loudly: OTRA PUERTA!
What other exit do you want me to use???? This was the main one, the front door!!!
No wonder people from other countries think Americans are rude! They probably stopped off at the DMV!

I left there so mad and I'm still mad... I hate the DMV and the run around you get EVERY time you go there here in Btown.  Everyone talks to you like you're retarded and they want every little weird thing you can possibly imagine.  So I guess I have to go back, after finding the one that is blue colored... which the by the way is EXACTLY like the other paper I had, only it's blue.

First Week

Well I made it through my first week of school... I just woke up this morning and I'm feeling a bit better.  HM also worked hard all week and we just sat around and watched TV all night and went to bed early because we were both so tired and not feeling good. I have allergies really bad and he is sore from work--thinks he might have tendonitis in his shoulder and all kinds of things.  We were both pretty worn out.

So anyway, let's see, I like my new school.  Things are going pretty well but like al schools things are different there.  Yesterday, we had just got back from our run for Cross Country and Dean was walking by so he stopped and we talked.  Dean is the new Principal at my school but he was originally working back at the district office and he was the one I talked to, and signed my contract with, and all that, so it's a  kinda interesting turn of events that now, four years later, he's my principal.  Anyway, he's way nice, I really like him, but he asked me this question:
Of all the schools you have taught at in the district, how is this school different?
I thought that was a very perceptive question. I like Dean--he seems human.
Anyway, I mostly answered that nothing is really THAT different except for one thing: at every other school when you walked into your new room, there were AT LEAST three bookcases there for you to use.  FHS I had five actually, and BHS I had four.  Here at GV I had ONE.  So I emailed the VP in charge of that stuff and begged for more and he gave me ONE more.  So now I have TWO and I have enough stuff to fill at least two more... right now a lot of books have a happy home on the floor and that is what I told him.  The VP told me that I couldn't have any more... they didn't have any more to give me... odd....

It's weird stuff like that that is different I have found.  Things that you take for granted, that you would think would come standard everywhere you went, are not standard.  Bookcases gratefully are not life threatening, and if it goes another month and I still can't get anymore, I'll just go buy some and bring them and problem solved.

At FHS, it was the bathrooms, and those you can't just go out and buy.  From my classroom, you have to walk a good quarter mile to get to the bathrooms--and there were only TWO TOTAL on the entire place.  I remember one time last year when it was 2nd period and I just couldn't hold it and so I left and ran to the bathroom because I knew I still had a good 2 1/2 hours of teaching before a break.  I was gone for a good 10 minutes but gratefully my 2nd period kids were angels. Anyway, it's nice to trade that problem for a bookcase problem anyway, I'm much more in favor of a bookcase shortage than a bathroom shortage. Open-mouthed

Let's see, Cross Country is going well but I must say I'm not really enjoying coaching.  I have shin splints that hurt REALLY bad and so on bad days I feel like my bones might be breaking... not a good tone for practice and I dread it all day.  If there are any times I can get out of going I do it... again, not a good attitude but it's not the kids or really the activity because I love running, but more the pain and the fact that I know it'll only get worse and I feel like a wuss and a bad coach because I can't run.

Then the other part of me gets mad because hey, what coach can't really coach because they can't do EVERYTHING right alongside the kids???  Why is it required that I have to run three miles like a pro in order to coach well?  I feel bitter about it Smile  I do... I wish I wasn't hurting and could just run but I can't and that frustrates me...

It's also frustrates me because there is this other coach who thinks he's all that and I want to smack him.  He is this younger guy and he's your typical california hottie.  He's blond, built like a model, and muscular.  He's over the guys and he runs with the FASTEST of them.  He will tell the kids "Well the FAST guys are going to go do this and that... oh and the girls, well I guess you guys can uh, just go run this far and come back..." Like the girls are the slowest most pathetic runners that he has to put up with.  Then, and this is the best part, he'll take off his shirt in front of everyone, and do the runs in his little runner shorts... does that seem inappropriate to anyone else???  This is not just a boys team... it's a mixed team.... And he looks good, I mean I'll give him that, at least he's not grossing anyone out but still... I don't like him much.

Anyway, that's cross country.  We haven't actually had any competitions yet, it's all been just practice and I must say I am not really enjoying it... between my shin splints and that other coach, and the fact that Dave is really the head coach of the girls, a lot of days I feel unneeded.  I am slowly making friends with the girls, and all the kids are nice, so that's good but I don't feel I really do much coaching more like I joined a club I don't really want to be a part of...

Anyway, drama stories around here lately.  Have I mentioned this was a crazy week? Smile  Anyway, so our brilliant mechanic friend Paul, remember him? He helps us fix our cars all the time--he fixed my ignition key the other day if you remember that story...  Okay, so how do I even start this story... Okay from the beginning: Paul and Brad were friends and HM is friends with them too in a kinda... older brother caretaker kind of way.  Those two get a place together at the apartments that HM's brother manages.  Things are going fine until Paul meets this girl...  This girl very quickly moves in and this girl has three kids.  Now, they have a two bedroom apartment... so they construct this makeshift bedroom in the garage and the one oldest teenage girl moves in there, the kids move in with Brad and the girlfriend obviously moves in with Paul.  From there, it's nothing but disaster.  Her kids are 6, 10 and 14 and NONE of them go to school.  Not even registered...  Also, HM tells me that they all drink... even the 6 year old is seen smoking cigars and sleeping with whiskey bottles... not good... so after months of problems and complaints from the neighbors, Paul and the "family" decide they are moving to Lake.  So they go, they tell HM's bro they are moving out and then... they don't really.  They tell him they'll be out by the 15th and on the 18th, still nothing.  So finally, Paul calls Brad, and tells HIM to got tell Craig that actually, they aren't moving and they would like to stay.  The Owner says no and tells them to just pack up and leave.  Not good... Now Brad has been planning all along to move to Washington with his sister and things are working out well for him but we didn't know what Paul was going to do... then the very next day,  HM comes home and tells me: Paul and his girlfriend LEFT last night at 3am... WHAT????  AND, this is the best part, they barely took anything. HM says it barely looks like they took any clothes.  Brad says Paul told him "All that stuff is replacable" and he left the entire apartment full of stuff.  Or rather, he left the entire apartment for Brad and HM to deal with and he left... didn't even say goodbye to anyone, just left.  And the best part, they left the 14 year old girl here, living with some guy.  Isn't that crazy???  The girl isn't your average 14 year old innocent so I'm sure she didn't even notice that her mother deserted her so don't worry, but still, sad.  So this weekend, or next weekend, we have to go decide what to do with the whole apartment full of stuff that they left and what we are going to do with it.  We might have a yard sale, or maybe just take it all to Goodwill... I don't know.  I mean they left like an Xbox, a Playstation, a couple TVs, a computer, I mean all stuff they should have taken, but didn't.  They even left ALL of their mechanic tools, thousands of dollars worth of stuff they used to use and to do stuff for us with, and it's all still there.  Crazy crazy...

OKay, so now, the latest on CR, L and Tigger...  CR was laid off from his very good, well paying job about 6 months ago... The company he worked for was a pretty well known company so it stands to reason that it wouldn't be too hard to go find a similiar job elsewhere.  Well that was six months ago... since then, CR hasn't really looked for a job at all... they are living off his severence pay and the fact that they don't have to pay rent because they manage these apartments...  So this last week, CR tells HM that he hasn't had TIME to go look for a job because he's been so busy with these apartments... kinda true... but still.  He says he applied to one place but they "only pay $19 an hour and he got $24 before..."  so he didn't take it... right... because $19 is worse than making NOTHING like you are now... and this wouldn't be as bad maybe except L is pregnant and going to deliver here in like 3 months...

So a couple days ago, he tells HM his new plan.  He wants to move in with HM's parents, who have this big house they've had for 12 years, just renting for really cheap, but still, and take over the account for mowing lawns that HM's dad has.  "Lawns" are like the worst job he has and while that is his steady income, all his kids have BEGGED him to either re-bid the job or quit because they are all afraid it will kill him someday.  It's a lot of work and he is getting too old to do it... anyway, so CR proposes to take this over, and they would move in with them.... Okay, so sounds okay right?  Well, HM and ST heard that and were mad and HMs dad was going to say yes until they pointed out a couple things...  CR and L are not the neatest of people, in fact their apartment is TRASHED pretty much oh... ALL of the time.  Their apartment is so inhabitable that they spend most of their time hanging out anywhere else but there.... So what would happen if they moved in with the parents?  That would turn HM's mom, who already had health problems, into the full time MAID, HOUSEKEEPER, and BABYSITTER for them, as well as the full time COOK.  Don't do that to your wife! was the basic message that HM and ST told their dad, and I agree.  It already seems like they take advantage of HM's mom and make her babysit for long periods and never pay her or even say thank you.  Tigger is getting better but he's a very curious little boy and he's a lot to handle for HM's mom and she's always really tired afterwards.

The best plan I have heard so far is that maybe they should just SWITCH:  Have HM's parents take over managing the apartments and CR and L can move into the house and do the lawns and do whatever... but that would mean that CR would have to get a job and L would have to actually keep the house clean... and I don't know that HM's parents would ever give up their nice big house when they knew it would only just get trashed... So who knows what will happen...

Oh and let's not forget, the best part:  The new rave among HM's family is this thing called Pre-Paid Legal.  First off, there are two parts to this: the actual product is a good deal I think. You pay about $35 a month and you get free legal advice, free readings of contracts, a will done for you, and legal representation in Traffic court, and if you ever had to actually go to criminal court.  It's all a good deal for only $35 a month...  So it's kinda like insurance for legal problems.  They don't cover everything but they cover a lot.  Interested?  You can sign up through us. Smile

Okay, second part of this, if you want, you can also sign up to SELL this product in a... you guessed it... Multi-Level Marketing scheme...  You munipulate three of your friends or family to join, and you get more money.  If those three people sell some accounts, you get a payback from that sale too, and on and on...  HM's cousin Travis--the one who came to our wedding--does this and is making some good money.

So here's my stance:  PrePaid Legal is a good product, I'm cool with it.  But MLM is a scam and always has been!!!  They make it seem like this new amazing idea when it's not. In MLM, they make it sound like you will make millions in a short time period when there are only a few people at the very top of the pyramid that is true for and the rest of the people get screwed out of all their money while being told they just need to "believe" more... it's like the weirdest kind of business cult that has never been exposed...  So Travis was here, they tried to convince us to do it, because hey, it would be so good for us, (i.e. good for them because they would make more money FROM us) and I must say, I argued with them the whole time. IT'S A SCAM, don't make it out to be something it's not!!!

So HM's little brother Chad decides this is just the LIFE for him and he has moved to Oregan with Travis to do this business thing and pursue his life of fame and fortune... right... so Chad is all into it so his parents, supporting Travis right, also pay to be a "business owner" to sell Pre-Paid Legal.  They have little meetings that they invite people to and it's like little communist meetings or something... it's just all so odd... anyway, so this is the best part... CR decides he wants to do that too! Of course, right, since he won't even go LOOK for a job to support his wife, and small son, and one on the way, he'll just go out and do door to door sales because that will be a lot easier...w hat are these people on???  So that's the other part of the brilliant plan: move in with the parents, do lawns, and make millions selling Pre-Paid Legal. Smile

The Reception

Alright, well, whew... I am back from my school, my room is ready for Monday, copies are submitted and I am now teaching a CAHSEE prep class instead of 12CP.  That takes one more thing off my To-Do list and I am home to relax and get some things done here...  So I want to finally tell you about our Reception since I finally stole some pictures that HM's mom and Steph took so can show you everything.

First, we had it in our backyard.  We put lights up on the fence, draped in "tool" (no clue how that is spelled but it's that lacy stuff) and then put candles around the yard, with tikki torches, white tablecloths and red rose centerpices.

The food was catered by Rick--which is HM's brother's father-in-law or Lacey's Dad, depending on who you know I guess.  He owns this sandwich place called "Too Fat" Wink and he gave us a good deal.  It was nice to not have to worry about all that!

Our main hosts--i.e. the ones who really took care of everyone and made sure the trash was taken out and the drinks were filled up, etc etc was Steph and Darren.  They also took the majority of the pictures here Smile

We had a lot of people come to our reception that we were very excited about.  So what ended up happening most of the time is HM and I would be together and then one of his friends would come so he would go over to talk to them and then one of mine would come so I would go talk to them and it was just crazy.  I would say I spent most of the time WITHOUT him Smile talking to people I knew that were there and catching up and he did the same.  Anyway, so a lot of random people came that you probably didn't know and you still don't know, but we did and so his mom took their pictures. Yay for these people for coming, we were really excited to see you there!

These are pictures of people sitting around waiting for dinner to be served, right when the party started... I am not sure who exactly took them, Steph or HM's mom, but they are all a bit random but this is my favorite:
Here we have a picture of Charla,Lacey's mom and brother' backs,
and our caterer's behind: Open-mouthed
This is HM's dad, his friend Chris, and the Beesley's--Stacey's in-laws

Here is my brother Wil, who sat in this seat through the whole reception and guzzled these three sodas within about a 10 minute time period Tongue out I took this of him and I swear you can just see him thinking... "Perhaps one more...?" lol...
This isn't the best picture of him, but this is my step-son Dudey and the girl whose head you see is his "future" girlfriend China.  He informed us recently that he had decided that "maybe it was time to settle down with just one girl" (he's 15) and he was debating between two girls.  So he brought the one, China, to our reception as an "audition" Smile  She is a really cute girl and everyone approved so that was a good sign I think. :)

My parents, Wil, and my brother John and his wife Chelsea, and Blake were the only ones from my family that were able to make it.  They got here about 3pm that day and then left early the next morning. It was nice to have some of my family there, no matter how small!

In this pictures, HM is telling his friend "No, I'm going to be nice to her..." and I am plotting how I was going to run away after I got him so he couldn't get me... haha....

These are HM's best friends.
The ones on either side of him he has known since he was 14 years old (wow).  The one one the left, his name is Mark and this is probably the ONLY picture we have of him.  He refuses to have his picture taken most of the time and this proves how much he really cares about HM (says HM).  This is the first marriage/reception of HM's that Mark has even consented to come to because in the past he didn't like HM's wives... so I guess I pass the best friend test Smile

And here is the FAMILY:

These are some of the gifts that we recieved:
The words "Bride" and "Groom" are actually stenciled on the glass...

The tissue paper on this gift smelled HORRIBLE!
A Tick-Tock Clock!
Thank you John and Chelsea!
HM was very happy about this gift: these clean very good he said :)

He really wanted a book about this--he has told all our visitors to the house that he was going to "Fueng-Shui" the living room...
This feeds 10 people and we got two of the exact same one... :)

Okay, now the cool part, if you have made it this far....
This is/was the neatest part of the reception I think... at the end of the evening, we were looking at the pictures on Steph's camera really quick and I noticed that there was this picture of HM's friend Tommy w/his date that had a HUGE orb right on the girl's face:

And then also on her dress later and on Tommy's feet:

Now for those of you who don't know, these white circles are called Orbs and they are supposed to mean that there are Spirits or Ghosts present and the Orb is how the film picks it up.

When I used to work at BHS, which was built in 1830, I ALWAYS had orbs in the pictures I took in my classroom and honestly, it ALWAYS felt like there were people there.  That is one of the things I miss the most about my old classroom--the ghosts. Smile  When I came in mornings, it always felt like there had been people there at night, nothing distrubed, just present...

Anyway, pretty soon we started noticing that LOTS of the pictures had orbs in them:
This is the same picture from before, I just didn't crop it as close... HM says they had a good buddy of theirs die in HS and maybe that was him?  Who knows?

On the brown pants:
On the wall:
Under the bench:
On the bottom and on top of the waterfall:
Two between our hands and the table:

Anyway, there are tons more, but those are the easiest to see.  The more you look at these pictures, the more you see and realize that they are all over the place.  In one family picture, I think the Irish one, we counted as many as SIX in one picture.

It's cool when you realize that HM's "Nanna"--his mother's mother, just died a few years ago and so did my Grandma.  I hope it was them there with us :)

And last but not least, thank you to Chelsea for being the best and most animated Karoake singer of the night: Smile

Lots to do

Man, it feels like i haven't written in forever!  I have been pretty swamped with everything here and I have a LIST of things I wanted to explain and tell you all about but there just hasn't been time.  School starts on Monday and I am way behind.  Last year I was done about this time, had all my lessons planned and my room ready and man, this year it just hasn't been there.  Last night about 7:30PM I finally got my room done and I am just about to head out to get some final supplies for my room and go start to submit my copies and do my lessson plns and all that.  School starts monday!

This year I am going to be a bit busier because I agreed to do Extended Day.  For you non-teachers, that means that instead of having a prep period, I teach another class.  Honestly, that's fine with me because last year you know what I did on my prep?  Wrote on this, took naps and played games and things.  After being a Forensics coach for 3 years, I learned to prep my classes in under 30 minutes because that was all I had to work with and now I still do that even though I have tons more time.  So I will get paid a bit more and I am hoping that it won't be so bad because I didn't do much with my prep last year so I don't think I really need it.

So my base classes are 9th College Prep and 11 General and then for extended day I picked up a 12 College Prep class.  3 Preps.  Dave is freaking out about it but I really don't care. It's fine.  So this is my schedule:
11 General
11 General
9 CP
Lunch
9CP
9CP
12CP
XC Practice

11 G is all in the morning, so that will be nice and I progressively move up in ability as the day goes one... not a bad way to do it.  Until November when Cross Country ends, I will not be done until almost 5 at night, but that will just be at first and then I'll be free.

So the next item of news, I am the Girls Cross Country coach!  Who would have ever thought?  Benj and Grif would be so proud of me....  Really I am just the Assistant at this point because there are two other coaches who have both coached for the last 2 years and they pretty much run the show and I watch, but they are both guys and the girls team has not done as well Dave says because he feels like the girls weren't really connecting with them as much as they might with a girl as their coach, ya know?  They have still done well, but some girls expressed I guess that they wished they had  a girl coach too so that is me. :)

The only problem with all of this is that most of the time when you coach, you instruct the kids, right?  You yell, you encourage, all that.... but no.  In XC, we RUN with the kids...  I usually run with Dave and the other coach, Mike, runs with the fastest boys.  Now you would think that we would get our butts kicked by these young little kids running 2-4 miles during practice but we actually hold our own... I must say I was surprised...  Dave and I usually come in towards the first, which doesn't say much for our team I don't think....haha...

Anyway, because of all this running, and probably because of the fact that they never really healed from the LAST time I had them, I have shin splints like CRAZY!  Oh my gosh, they hurt so bad, I can barely walk during the day!  The other day I couldn't run at all because the pain when from my knees to my ankles and it felt like the bones would snap at any moment...  I wanted to cry.  I stopped and walked and felt dizzy and sorry for myself :)  So I have begged out of practice a couple times but it really doesn't get any better... I ice them at night, take Motrin, and put Tiger Balm stuff on them, but man, even walking KILLS.

So to a certain degree, I feel a bit bitter about this coaching thing.  No where does it say that you have to be a star athlete and be able to perform as well as the kids, in order to coach them!  Show them, yes, but actually have to do whatever they do, whatever!!!  I still want to coach and I hate having to miss practice and not participate because I am "injured" but heck, that shouldn't matter!!!  I am not the one competing here!!!  I dread practice because I know I won't be able to do it, and I know that I'll be in pain the whole time and I know that after practice I'll dread the next one...  We don't have practice on Fridays and I love it... it's such a relief to just be able to rest and not have to worry about running 4 miles with horrible shin splints... I'm not really enjoying coaching so far :)

My new school is pretty good.  People are friendly and nice--not as nice as they were at Foothill, but they are cool and the school is a lot cleaner.  The faculty is not as together as Foothill's but I think that is mostly because they don't have Jan Graves.  She's the grandma of the school there and keeps everyone in line and feeling like a family.

Anyway, this time of year is when I always seem to meet and see poeple I taught, or people I know.  At one of my meetings, this lady walks up to Dave and started talking to him and I kept looking at her and thinking that something about her seemed familiar.... She seemed to recognize me too and when I told her I worked at BHS she was like: OH!  You taught my daughter!!!  Her daughter Molly was in my class and she told me that she had taken some test and was now going to college instead of being a Senior.  She also told me that Molly loved my class and that I was probably her favorite teacher at BHS.  Awh... She also told me that she uses my Writer's Notebook idea in HER class when she teaches English in Summer school (she usually teaches History).  Wow, I'm famous! :)

Then the other night, I drop in to Rite Aid to look for something real quick, they didn't have it, so I just bought milk and as I'm walking away from the counter, looking down trying not to drop it, I hear, "is that her? Ya, that's her... Forsythe!!!"  I look up and there are two brothers who used to be in my Forensics team.  Christian will be a Sophomore this year I think and his old brother Temo just graduated.  The one, Temo, was my BABY.  I taught him the very first year I was in CA and he was so sweet and shy and quiet but I coached him and coached him on his speech that year and he made it to State!!!  Words cannot describe how proud I was of him.  Anyway, he graduated last year and told me that he is on his way to Cal Poly in about two weeks--he was even wearing a sweatshirt already :) (cute).  It was amazing though because I had not seen him in a year and he was HUGE!  He had grown a good 3-4 inches and gained probably 50 lbs.  He was a pretty small kid before but now, man, he's really looking like a man. I wanted to cry.

He told me that he didn't really do Forensics his Senior year because he said "it just wasn't the same without you.  That new guy and I didn't really get along and we all missed you a lot at tournaments.  We all missed you and it just wasn't the same."  Awh!!! I missed them too, and Temo especially, was always such a sweetheart.  He was one of the ones though, that I thought perhaps would not do as well once I left... I think that is true of any program--there are certain kids who do well and are in it solely because of the instructor and their relationship and once that is gone, the interest in the activity is not enough to hold them to it.  More times than not, they seem to resent the new leader and they fall away.  I had that happen with some kids when I started coaching and I knew it would happen with my kids with the new guy too and I guess Temo was one of those.  It was so good to see them though... I can't believe that my babies are out of high school already...  it's amazing how much they change and grow at this age... a mere 4 years and they go from babies to adults...

Note to self...

So our friend Darren just got his license yesterday for the first time in three years.  He's had uh... well, certain circumstances that have prevented him from having one but he's been very good about not driving and getting rides and taking his classes and yesterday, he went to go get it, and didn't even have to take the test, only paid $70 bucks instead of $125 like he thought, and so when I got home from practice, HM told me he had let him take the truck to go run some errands--something that I'm sure was very wonderful and freeing for him.  We were outside talking when he pulled up and we kept talking and asking him "how was it?" Open-mouthed like it was some new thing, we were excited for him.

Next we tell him about this motorcycle that is for sale where we just picked Dudey up from and told him he should go see it... so he goes to start the truck again and the key won't go in.... weird...  he fiddles with it for awhile.... then HM tries.... then I try... then the whole group again, and finally get the key in but it won't turn....  They finally had to leave and took the car.

While they were gone, HM sends me a message and asks me to call auto parts places and see if they have an "ignition key" part for my truck and they would go pick it up.   They brought Paul back with them, our brilliant mechanic friend, and his girlfriend and her son swam in the pool while the boys worked...

So this ignition key, it's basically the whole thing you put they key in, in fact new keys come with it, and it all comes out and you put this new one in.  It's so fun to play with and afterwards, we all admited that we had...
and come to find out afterwards...
it says on the outside: DO NOT TURN THE KEY!

So they worked on this until 11pm last night and finally discovered that the reason it wasn't working was because you aren't supposed to mess with it at all until you put it in and then it locks itself in and that is how it works.

All of us looked Guilty when they finally figured it out:  It was confession time.
"I messed with it"
"So did i..."
"So did I..."
Embarrassed
So we have to go get another one today and fix the truck.  We can start it now though and it runs... just use your friendly screwdriver as a key Open-mouthed

Too much

Man, I have a lot on my  mind today!  Too much to do today...

1.  My Masters Advisor is out to get me....  I'm supposed to do this final presentation right?  According to HIM, well, the him of six months ago, which is different than the person now, this is supposed to just be more of a "celebration" he said of all I have accomplished.  The latest email sounded a lot different though!  Supposedly now I'm supposed to brush up on all of the competencies because he is going to quiz me on all of them and make sure I know them all.

2.  Secondly, he's retarded.  I finally heard back from my school advisor who said he could do the presentation anytime in the morning...
and I can do it anytime but from 3-5 if the afternoon.
So he emails back and says
"So do you want to do it from 3-4 next Wednesday??? Would that work for both of you???"
Uh... No... what part of that message did you really get??
And so I called him this morning and he even says,
Okay, so your advisor can only meet in the mornings, is that right?
That's right.
Well what about next Monday in the late afternoon?
I wasn't sure what to say... well, that wouldn't be mornings would it?

He finally found a time when we could meet in the morning like it was this huge task for him...

Whatever... I just want to be done with all this and get away from this guy...

3.  The Cake:  my mom said they would like to pay for a cake for the reception this Saturday.  That's cool.  So I ask HM's mom and family and such and they say: "Oh you HAVE to have Ruben do you cake!!! He's so good and they are delicious!!!  Okay, sounds good.

So Saturday, HM and I go to a reception and they are like,
oh taste the cake! Ruben did this cake!
Yes, it's very good... so did you ever call Ruben? Can he do it?
Oh, she says, no, he can't, he'll be at the temple all next week and he says he can't do it...
And the next sentence is: Oh, you should have Ruben do your cake!!! Isn't this good?
I just smiled. Yes... that's an excellent idea...
Finally, HM leans over and asks me if Ruben is doing our cake and I laughed: no he isn't! Your mom said he can't do it.
Then why do they keep raving about his cake then and how he should do ours if they KNOW that he can't? he asked me.
I laughed again: you got me?!
So I don't know where we are having our cake done now, but hey,
Ruben does good ones, just so you know...

Love it, love it...

I love reading The Great Pretender's website because without fail, she makes me laugh. Today is was this story about her daughter M and how she guilted her into wearing sunscreen and how that worked.  She cracks me up!

Another thing I found and am going to try (that I found on The Great Pretender's website) is this thing called BookSmart where you can have your blog published into a book!  Cool idea!  Up to 40 pages for $14.95 plus shipping.  It's actually pretty cool!

My dog is very smart.  You always know when he has done something wrong because he hides from you when you get home.  He cowers as it were, because he knows he is going to get into trouble.  One time he had peed on the floor (which I can't remember the last time he did that), others times he has chewed my shoes.  Today I left for only say, 15 minutes, came back, and he was all scared when I came in.  I walked around and found that he had attacked my bed it seemed... pillows on the floor (not hurt just examined) and it looked like he had tested one of them out for softness.  How he knew that these pillows were "new" a.k.a. from Shawn's house so new to him, is beyond me, but it seems he figured it out.  Another time, I had forgotten to close the bedroom doors and when I returned he had apparently tested our bed and Dudey's bed and decided Dudey's was better and so it seemed he had rearranged the pillows the covers and taken a little nap...He's the cutest dog ever! :)

HM is one of the funniest people I have ever met.  Just the things he says, makes me laugh every day... like the other day, we watched the 4th Harry Potter movie, which we discovered that HM hadn't seen after we went and watched the latest one and he went: "This is confusing, did I miss a movie?"  On the third try, he stayed awake for the whole movie...minus the last 3 minutes... :)

I turned off the movie and woke him up and got him to bed.  In his little sleepy voice, he goes, "can you go get me an apple... no, a plum ball of cookie dough?" (the remains of Dudey's PB cookies from the other night were still in the fridge) What? I said, laughing, you want cookie dough?!  "Yeah," he mumbled, "just a plum-ball, that's all I want, just a plum-sized one, that's all..."  He'd fall asleep and then come back to ask about whether I had gotten him his "plum-ball" of cookie dough.  I'll admit that he was too cute I finally relented and got it for him. :)

Last night, he was doing his Start-Awakes where he will fall asleep for no more than a couple seconds and then kinda wake up enough to have a nonsense type conversation and then fall back asleep.  Sometimes he's sweet but he's always cute.  Last night he woke up, hugged me and cuddled up to me and said,
"I sure like being with you"
"Oh ya? I said
(I knew he was mostly asleep so it always funner to keep the conversation going and see what he says)
"why is that?"
I don't know...? he said.
And he was asleep again.
I busted up laughing.

He woke up when I started laughing and I told him what he just said and he laughed and said he had been trying to think of something good to say and instead he just fell asleep. :)

Dudey is also such a cute kid.  He's older and thinks he's all that and more :) but other times he's real cute and I am reminded that he's still a kid.  We were eating dinner together the other night and I had just told him a story about this gross cornbread I had had one time and he goes:
I like the cornbread with the REAL corn in it.
You mean like with the whole kernal in it? or what?
No, just the cornbread with the real corn in it.
Oh.  So uh, do you know what they make cornmeal out of?
No.
Corn. Wink
Oh.
You know like flour...made out of ground up wheat, right?
(puzzled expression)
Well, cornmeal and so cornbread, is made of ground up corn.
He smiled Open-mouthed: Oh.  Well I still like the ones with the little... the little parts, you know, of the cob in it...
Those are called kernals, right? Wink
Ya ya, those things... Smile

Too cute.

It's also funny the little things that people know when they know you well.  I just went and took Dudey to his friend's house and then stopped to get milk and since HM was working just next door, I stopped to say hi.
I told him I had just gone to the store and that we were out of laundry detergent but I hadn't gotten any since I thought he might want to choose it this time (the man has a thing about laundry!)
He laughed: whatever, you just didn't want to buy it!  You hate buying laundry detergent.
I laughed... and blushed a little and said "Well, that's true actually..."
D was standing there and was like, what? Why do you not like buying detergent? What's the alternative? you gonna wash your clothes on a rock outside?
No, that's not it, HM said, she just thinks it's too expensive and she gets burnt out when she has to buy it.
I had forgotten that I had told him that... It's true though.  Things like laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent make me grouchy to buy... I mean it's just soap!  Why do you have to pay like $10 bucks for a big thing of soap???  I mean that's like a whole meal for three people and you can't even eat it!
I thought it was funny that HM remembered something like that though... and that he called me on it when I didn't even realize I did it...I did go buy some and I did grumble about it as I carried the heavy thing to the car... I'll admit it.... Confused

The other day, I watched Tigger all day.  We took a walk, watched movies and swam in the pool.  It was a fun day but also long because HM didn't get home until late that night and I thought Tigger's parents would come get him at 6 and then CALLED at 6 and said they were just leaving... *sigh*  Tigger is a cute kid though. When L dropped him off, she told me:  Okay, these are the interpretations:
"RAWR"=Madagascar
"Uh Uh"=Curious George
"Elmo"=Finding Nemo
And it was true.  When I asked him "what movie do you want to watch?" He would answer: "Rawr" SurprisedSmile
