Our 1st BBQ

I wanted to have people over for a BBQ on Saturday
And it was supposed to be just like HM's parents, CR and L, maybe CH and J
And of our family of course
But soon, it was like "Can we ask so and so to come?"
And then "Can we ask so and so to come too?"
And in no time at all we had like 15 people coming to this sudden party!
It was all good though and a good time was had by all
But don't be offended if you didn't get an invite
It was supposed to just be a little BBQ
And suddenly we felt like we were entertaining...lol
So anyway, here's pics,
I guess this was our first party in our new house

News and pictures

1. Yard Sale
This was our Yard Sale
It went pretty good
But I officially think Yard Sales are stupid
And I doubt we will do one again
But it was good to get rid of all this stuff in our garage!

2.  Painting the Porch
HM and Burrito and CR finished painting the porch!
Now our house is offically fully painted
So here is the BEFORE:
So after some work and rearranging:
And now, this is the AFTER:

3. Flower Beds
I figured out a lovely thing about our house
The reason that the side yard is so uneven
Is because the previous owners
Dug out the dirt out of all the flowerbeds and filled them with rocks
So now I have to rake/shovel out all the rocks:
And then fill it back up with dirt so I can plant anything at all:
GRRR....it's a PAIN

4. The Fountain!!!!
It works!
They put in a pump last night and it finally works!
(and it is SO COOL)

5. Ripping down the Monster Bush
Last Saturday also, L and I tore down this HUMUNGOUS bush
It was taking over everything, including two palm trees
So this is the before:

And now the AFTER:

Okay, that's enough for now, I gotta go get ready! ah!

Whew...

One more full week left of school
And it's Friday
Things are good
So here is our happy news for the week:

1.  We finished our room!
It was the last room of the house that was still not done
The last room that had boxes still to be unpacked
And things not hung up
But we finally finished it
And it's beautiful
We love it
Still more things to add maybe
But as it is, it's nice just to be there

2.  Sadie is sleeping through the night!
I know I know
She's like 10 months old already
That's not a very good record
But it actually is!!!

If you consider that
when she was 4 months old
Burrito was living in her room for 2 months
So I wasn't going to put my baby
In with what was then a strange man
So she slept in our room

Then we found out we had to move
So she didn't have a room
And we moved into this closet room at HM's room
And it was stressful enough just being in that little room
Much less trying to listen to your baby cry herself to sleep
So she just slept with us and whatever

Then we moved into a bigger room when his parents moved out
Which was better
But still, she slept right next to us
And it was hard enough just getting her to go to sleep in her crib
When the freaking bed creaked so loud
it would wake her up whenever you even sat on it

Then we got this house
And we've been unpacking and fixing it up
Until insane hours of the night
And we're just too tired to deal with training the baby

So finally
I think we are almost done with the "unpacking"
And finally mostly settled in
And Sadie has slept in her own bed
And slept through the night
For the last 3 nights in a row
YAY for sleep for Mom!!! :) yay!

Clovers save the world

So I've had that Mother's Day song in my head all day
"I often go walking... in meadows of clover....
And if I love Flowers and clovers and walking...
I learned how to love them
Dear Mother
from you"

And I've been thinking to myself
That song always confused me as a child
I remember singing it and thinking:
What is so great about clovers and walking?
I mean do these things save the world?
Secretly I would watch the crowd when we sang this song
Wondering if any mother would suddenly break into tears at those lines
And exclaim:
Oh thank heaven! I was so afraid our son didn't like clovers!
Bless heaven! What a relief!
OR
Thank heavens we have been such good parents!
Our daughter loves walking!
And they would share some tearful embrace
And then I would have my answer:

Learning to go for walks and pick clovers and enjoy flowers
These are the ultimate goals for any well-bred life
Right?
Perhaps this song was too deep for my Primary mind

I mean why does this song not say:
And if I'm a doctor or astronaut or nobel peace prize winner...
I learned how to be that, Dear Mother, from youuuuuuuu! :)
That would seem to make more sense :)
Happy Mother's Day all...
Go teach your kids to walk through clovers already would ya?

Getting back to normal

Today I went grocery shopping and thought about Food Storage
While at the store, I also bought a recipe magazine
Once a while back I told HM when he came home:
Guess what!? I got a new book!
Is it a recipe book? he asked
Um...  No... of course not I answered
But I was lying and he knew it
Recipe books are my favorite piece of literature these days
Anyway, I realized as I did this
These are all signs that perhaps our lives are getting back to Normal
Whatever that is right?
Well I can tell you what it's NOT
Normal for us is Not:
Having all of our stuff in storage
Having boxes everywhere
Not having a house to live in
Living in someone else's empty house
These things have been things we have dealt with for awhile
But thankfully,
perhaps we are almost done with that phase
And can get back to buying recipe books :)
oh and one more thing
Speaking of Normal
Or rather the lack of it
There are about 3 weeks of school left
Bless heaven for that!
But it's interesting teaching Seniors
Because for them it's not just the end of school
But the end of High School.

Of those 100 seniors I teach
I now have 3 students who are pregnant
Two just found out and are no more than 4-5 weeks along
One of those students
I was reading her journal
(and I read it before too when she was talking about having sex with her boyfriend all the time so I wasn't TOO surprised)
and she said that they were going to get married this summer
And not because of the baby necessarily
But because they were in love and wanted to be a family
How sweet right?
I hope it is that way
I have to keep reminding myself that these are 18 year old girls
How many of your moms got married at 18?
I know quite a few who did
And they were not all disasters right?
So maybe these will be okay?

I had another student who took an extra week
On the already week vacation of Spring Break
And when she came back informed me that
She had not come back because she was too busy
Planning her wedding...
to a 25 yr old man
in June
Ya... They've been friends for a long time she said
Hmmm

And not that these will not all be fabulous marriages
But a part of me hears this and I think...*sigh*
Can you think a sigh?
Because that's what I think about all that

And even weirder?
If you think about it
My kids
And their kids
Will be the same age :)
