28 aprile Gestational DiabetesI got a call from the doctor's office last week or so
They said that they got the results back from my blood test and my glucose test
And my glucose level was kinda high--138
So they wanted me to take the 3-Hour glucose test
To avoid missing school
I went down to this place downtown
That is open on Saturdays
HM went to the Great American Cleanup by himself
And I went and sat in my car for about 3 hours
I had to drink another orange sugar drink
Just like the first test
Then they draw your blood
But then you sit for an hour
And they test your blood again
And then another hour
And then test you again
And then again
So in a 3 hour time period, they draw blood four times
You are supposed to not eat anything before the test
And then during it all you can have it water
It SUCKS.
I had a different doctor/nurse every time I went in
(I went out and sat in my car in the shade instead of staying in the waiting room)
And by the last test, I was feeling
VERY
GROUCHY
and starving
So the last doctor,
was getting on everyone's nerves
He couldn't find my paperwork
And someone had to find it for him
So he was complaining about that
As he takes my blood
And when he basically stabbed me
I said "OW!" really loud
And he kinda scoffed at me and goes:
"What? did that hurt?"
YES IT DID! I said
(stupid jerk
All the rest of the people here can do it without hurting me
What's your problem?!?)
I was mad
(and coincidentally, that was the only one that gave me a huge bruise afterwards)
And right before I had come in
I took off the tape from my last test
And it ripped my skin off with it
So I asked him if they had some Neosporin or something for it
Just real quick
Again he kinda rolled his eyes:
No. We don't have that kind of stuff here. He tells me
Stupid jerk.
As I was leaving, one other lady offers
to go find me some
I told her to forget it
I was mad
And started to cry as I left
I got in my car
All hopped up on stupid orange sugar drinks
And mad at the jerk doctor
And starving to death
And went to meet HM at the GAC lunch
I was trembling all over
And crying
But after a hamburger and a burnt hotdog
My blood sugar stabalized a little
And I felt a ton better
HM had been hanging out with the missionaries all day
So when we sat down to eat
The one Elder goes:
Uh... are you okay?
He looked more worried that I wouldn't be and he had no idea what to do
HM explained and I tried to smile that I was okay
Cuz I was still crying
(But really trying not to)
The Elder seemed very relieved that HM was taking care of things
LOL
So the next Monday
I was expecting a call from the doctor's office
That would tell me:
Your test results were terrible
And you have Gestational Diabetes
And they did call
But the lady just told me:
All your test results came back normal
REALLY?
Sweet....
18 aprile Stuff that makes your mother worry...So this is probably one of those things
I shouldn't even mention Because it just reinforces the whole idea of
"California is a horrible evil place full of crime"
that so many people seem to hold
But seriously, we live in a REALLY good neighborhood
It's very quiet here
There are tons of kids around
It's always really nice and homey
So last night I wasn't really sleeping that well
So I was laying in bed
Staring at the ceiling and such
And about midnight, I hear a helicopter
And not just the occasional one you hear sometimes
But one that was CLOSE
and it seemed like it was right around our house
And several times our window was lit up by its spotlight
Odd...
Then I hear sirens...
And I thought... odd...
I worried for awhile
But I knew all the doors were locked
And prayed for the best
whatever it was that was going on
So we woke up this morning to this story:
Arrests made in overnight murderPolice are investigating a murder which happened overnight in Southwest Bakersfield. Officers tell us just before midnight on Friday, a woman was found dead and a man now identified as 60-year-old James Arthur Wyatt was assaulted inside a home in the 3500 block of Trojes Avenue.
(TWO HOUSES down from us...)
Investigators say the victim and Wyatt were involved in a romantic relationship and lived together for the past 4 years. Thursday night, police say the two got into an argument so Wyatt and a friend of his, identified as 21-year old Justin Ennis, tied up the victim with duct tape and tie downs. Detectives say they put her in an upstairs bedroom and left here there for several hours. When they returned to the room, she was dead. Detectives say about four hours later, Wyatt called police from a neighbor's house and said Ennis had killed the victim. Both Wyatt and Ennis have now been arrested for murder and conspiracy charges. A third suspect who was also at the house but did not help with the binding of the victim has also been arrested. News vans were on the corner as we were all leaving for our day
When I came home for lunch
A reporter came out our door
I talked to him for a bit but I didn't want to go on camera
Thanks but no thanks!
This afternoon, they were back for a "LIVE Report"
It was kinda interesting
I was watching the news and it said "LIVE"
and on the news, I watched a kid ride by on his bike
And I walked outside and there was the kid
And there were the two news vans,
Just down the street
You don't see that every day
We walk by that house almost every day
Our mailbox is right by his fence
And last week we saw him mowing his lawn
he stopped mowing to let us pass
Said he needed a break anyway :)
He was totally red faced though
And not because he was mowing
And HM laughed as we got out of range
And he told me:
"I'm serious babe, that is a straight up hard-core alcoholic!"
And not that all alcoholics tie up their girlfriends and kill them
But it always seems to be connected doesn't it?
Still who would have predicted this would have happened?????
Crazy stuff... 14 aprile Another MondayThis week we have STAR testing
Which usually is a pain
but at this school, this year
They are letting all the kids out at 12
So we have three classes
15 minutes each
And then 2 hours of testing
and then we go home
Friday is also a short day
So starting tomorrow
I will get off at 12
Like any short schedule though
This means that now everyone things there is
SO MUCH
extra time
Why not do __________ too?
So no promises that I'll have any extra time
But hey, it's a good thought.
My kids turned in their research papers today
There was a pretty good showing
I haven't really looked at them yet
So I remain optimistic that at least
A lot of them turned SOMETHING in
I had my TA just go through and give them 10 pts
for every paragraph they wrote on their final draft
Then I have to go through and actually read them
All seemed to be well
Except for one paper she brought to me
That had NO PARAGRAPHS
LOL
Six pages of writing
And not an indentation or break in the whole thing
LOL... shoot me now....
When I was younger
I thought I would marry a man who had been married before
Or that I would have a 16 year old stepson
But life happens and whatever right?
So while unexpected
It is interesting
There's been a little drama lately
Most of which is normal I think:
Teenager goes somewhere
Teenager doesn't call
Or come home when they are supposed to
Parent gets mad at teenager
Teenager gets defensive and feels picked on
Even though they know they messed up
Parent feels frustrated that Teenager seems slightly braindamaged...
As a teacher of teenagers, I would say this is a pretty common situation with teenagers
Believe me
The parents are not the only ones
who wonder if these kids are slightly braindamaged
But despite how typical it is
it's frustrating
When it's YOUR (step) teenager
And my sweet Parent HM
Because teenagers
Especially THIS Teenager
do not fight fair
Instead of dealing with the real issue
He brings up anything else
That might hurt the Parent's feelings
So it makes it seem like it's the Parent's fault
Because the Parent is the one
Who didn't do what they were supposed to
And didn't call
And came home late
RIGHT.
So this time
He told HM
That this was all my fault
That HM had never asked him
or told him
That he was marrying me
And that all these "rules"
were a result of HM just doing what I told him to do
(HA and if he knew his father at all, he would know that wasn't possible anyway!)
And that HM was just trying to be this "super Mormon"
and please me by being mean to him
And making him do things
Like come home... do his chores...and call... and keep his promises...
You know
Silly things like that
Now, I really did not take any of this personally
This is just what our lovely Teenager does
Try to bring up an entirely different subject
To make his little misdemeanor seem smaller
Because the truth is
Our little Teenager and I have always gotten along pretty well
And HM DID tell him
And we've been together for two years
Married for almost a year
And he's never had a problem with it before
Or with me
Or with his "rules"
(except when he's in trouble for breaking them of course)
So all of this is just to try and make HM seem like a horrible person
Nice.
So the result of this drama last night
Was that Teenager told his Parent
That he "wanted nothing to do with him anymore"
and that he was going to go live with his mom.
(pause for dramatic effect)
Now
as I pick myself up off the floor from laughing...
There is a reason that this Teenager
Is with this certain Parent
where it's probably more common in general
for kids to be with their Mom Parent
Difference here is that Teenager's Mom
Never really cared much about him
especially if it was ever an inconvenience to do so
Even as an infant, HM took care of him
Because his Mom was off doing "other things"
She won't even bring him home
We have to go pick him up
from HER house
after he does things with HER
Teenager's mom hasn't "supported" him in any way
unless Teenager shows up at her door
and says: Hi. This is me visiting.
If Teenager didn't do that
I doubt he would ever see her
She never came to any of his football games
She never gives him money of any kind
Didn't really give him a Christmas present at all
But will sometimes just give him cash
If she remembers
Whenever he asks her for anything
She almost always says no
No matter what it is: rides especially
She seems nice enough
But as far as Teenager is concerned
He is just something that is there
And that she is perfectly happy letting HM deal with
So it's funny
That Teenager is "escaping" to his Mom's
Who won't do anything for him
And certainly won't allow him any kind of commodities
Namely a phone
Or a car... since he's turning 16 in two weeks
Or a license... driving to the DMV would never be on the list of things she would do
Or paying for his Driving Tests either...
(which he missed his last one yesterday when he didn't come home)
Or anything for that matter
I don't know that he even has a room or a bed at her house at all
(where he has his own room here with a big screen TV)
It doesn't make sense
And when he threatens that
HM tells him: Go ahead!
So this morning
Teenager packed some clothes
And HM dropped him off at his Mom's
Where supposedly
He will now be living
LOL...
We'll see how long this lasts
I think it will be good for him
He hasn't lived with his mom
for more than a day
Since he was young...maybe 8 or 9?
And HM told him he was shutting off his phone
So he won't have that either
Which that alone might kill him... lol...
It seems so funny
That someone could be so... brain dead
And not recognize what they have
For what it is
But I'm sure he'll come to his senses eventually
But even when he comes back
He'll still have to abide by the same rules
Which he says are "so unfair"... lol
We'll see... 13 aprile Any guesses?07 aprile Random commentsMondays are always the hardest I think
I am always tired on Mondays
It seems like even thinking about the big week ahead
Makes you even more tired
Even if your week isn't bad
Time is winding down at school
Kids are lazy and don't do their work
The weather is getting warmer
And everyone is ready for summer to start
But they still have to work
My kids had their Rough draft due today
for their research paper
We did everything
And all they had to do was go home
and just write it
Research was done
Outline was done
And the Intro, and the first paragraph
and the conclusion
were already done
They just had to write the rest
Guess how many did it?
About 10 out of 66 kids
GRRRRRRRRRRRR....
I gave a lecture most of the day
About how if they were lazy
And couldn't even manage to pick up a pencil
I had no problem failing them
I was rather grumpy today
But weirdly enough
Ranting and lecturing at least put me
in a better mood
HM's family is funny about cooking
Because while there are many people in the family who can cook
I often get the same question about things I make:
"Where did you get this?"
"Get it? I didn't get it anywhere, I just made it myself" I tell them
You MADE this yourself? How???
Uh... I dunno, I put stuff in a bowl and mixed it together?
REALLY???? Wow...
And I always feel I have to explain
Though I'm not sure why,
that It's really not that hard
You just follow a recipe
Like I make cookies, or brownies or a cake
And when we got through that same "Where did you get this from!?!" conversation
They are always just SHOCKED that I would actually make it "myself"
My ward had a Christmas party
And everyone was supposed to bring a dozen sugar cookies
So I made mine
And everyone wanted to know
How I got mine to get so thick?
And why did they taste different than the rest?
And what was this white stuff on them?
That would be flour honey...
And I just made them so I didn't roll them out as flat as yours???
The family are especially funny about Bread
I don't think anyone in the family has EVER made any kind of bread product
That did not come from a box
So far I have made biscuits, breadsticks and flat bread
And gotten just the
OH MY GOSH!!!
Kinda response that I actually made it
HM is the best though because he acts like he's witnessed some kind of accident
He'll tell them, like he's handing over secret information:
Ya know, and not to say it's no big deal
But I watched her do it
And it only takes her like 5 minutes to do
One minute she's putting stuff in a bowl
And the next it's done!
it's doesn't look hard at all!
And both he and the person he's talking to
Will shake their heads in amazment
Like they can barely comprehend
Such mysteries
Week #27
(aka 6 and 3/4 months)
04 aprile What do Painters do when they're bored?Q: What do Painters do when they get bored?
A: They paint their mother's kitchen, even though she didn't ask them to, but doesn't mind that they do of course
![]() ![]() And they even obsess about keeping the wonderful checker pattern, even over difficult things like vents:
As I was leaving school today
This random girl goes:
"Oh how cute! Are you pregnant?!"
"Nope," I said straighfaced, "I just at a lot of Twinkies and man, I just got really fat"
One of my students was standing next to her
He just shook his head at my sarcasm
"How far along are you?" she asked
"Six and a half months" I said and I walked away
As I did, I heard her tell my student:
"She's really big!"
I hear that a lot these days.
Like every day
I mostly chalk it up to the fact that
These are high school students
And as a majority
They aren't that bright
And also
When was the last time they really were around a pregnant woman?
Probably it's been awhile for most of them
So I am pretty normal I think
But I am very obviously pregnant
And so I am HUGE to them I guess
Anyway, it doesn't help though
That I went to the doctor's yesterday
And all is well
He said Sadie is easily TWO pounds already
Which means she grew a least a pound or more in one month
And I gained nine more
*sigh*
I gained more weight in this last month
Than I have in my whole pregnacy so far
I was not happy
Why?
Well, put in these factors:
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE allergies
(so all I crave is cold things and salsa)
and then being
EXHAUSTED all the time
so all I do is come home from school
sleep for a couple hours
Get up, make dinner,
And go back to sleep by 9...
So not a lot of exercise
And craving sugar more than healthy vegetables
So hopefully, things will get better now
I feel better
And don't feel like my bones are melting anymore
So this is good
I think
But still...Not happy about yesterday
But hey, I guess it's all part of this process, right?
Right. *sigh* 02 aprile Sadie's New RoomLong awaited...
This is what we worked on Saturday:
Sadie's room!
It's so nice to have a painter for a husband
I highly recommend picking one up :) haha...
So here is the before:
And After!
The dresser was given to us by a lady in our ward
HM painted the dresser, the shelf and the frames to all match
This is a newborn cradle we bought at the neighbor's yardsale for $10
I know some of you have asked for pictures of me but so far kids, this is all I have and this was a month ago.
This is what I see
