How much did you spend?

Okay, so I went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving today
I guess we are staying here in Btown
*sigh*
Not that excited about it really
There is nothing like Thanksgiving at  home
It's just not the same
But we'll do our best I guess

So I went to Winco,
One of the cheapest grocery stores around in my opinion
And spent $124
And not all of that was for Thanksgiving really
So actually, despite that my total made me gulp
It was pretty cheap really I thought
It was other stuff really
But that's the most I have ever spent there
So here's our survey for the week:
How much did you spend on Thanksgiving dinner this year???

I don't have ALL of this--still working a few things
But I have MOST of this Open-mouthed

You are not alone

I think one of the most important things I learned
When i was pregnant and now as a new mom
Is that there are a lot of people everywhere
Who have and are currently feeling the same things you are
And going through the same things you are
crazy in fact how similiar our experiences can be

So here's my question,
To all my readers out there
We're going to do a little survey called
"What Do You Do?"
In which I'm going to tell you a problem I have
And then I'll say how I deal with it...or at least how I wish i did

At which point you may either
Give me a suggestion about what to do from your vast experience
or uh... I dunno, maybe tell me how brilliant I am for coming up with anything, I dunno
Okay, so here goes:

1.  PICTURES
Okay so I guess if I was a good Mormon wife and mother
I would scrapbook all my pictures
But I don't
And though I am in favor of colorful decroative books with pictures
It's not something that is realistic for me
Especially since it seems like colorful laundry....
It never goes away... and keeps piling up the longer you put it off...
Who wants that?

So instead, I collect photo albums
It's enough for me to just keep them:
PRINTED--
thank you WalMart who mails them to your home
IN ORDER--
grr... ever finish an album and then have someone remind you a whole group of pics that so and so has... and there goes the well organized photo album
LABELED--
I buy lined post-its (blue, pink, yellow) and write captions for the photos.  Mostly I started doing this in albums of my students because I forgot their names even the year after and felt bad so I started labeling them so I would have everyone's name down.  Also, I figure it makes my photo albums a whole lot easier to look at since people can just look at them and now have to have me there to explain the pics to them.  Huh? smart....  See and even that, I am still over a year behind on my labeling.  Granted a lot has happened in the last year and that's a lot of pictures to label....but still

2.  RECIPES
In college I had all my recipes
the whole 15 that I had
In a small little wood box
Now my collection has grown
And I have all kinds of recipes that I like
That have come from all different people
I had them in the cupboard for awhile
and I kept losing some of them
And it was really unorganized
You get the idea
I didn't want one of those recipe boxes
They kind bug
So took a small photo album
And I put my recipes in there
They don't get dirty
I can see what I have
And nothing gets lost
I sometimes think to myself:
Someday I should type all these and make them look better
But who has the time?
besides they are in a cute photo album
That works perfect

3.  SADIE'S CLOTHES
Sadie's drawer is constly a mess
Not only does she grow so fast it's hard to keep up
Between my mother in law pawing through it
And me going through it
It's constantly a mess

Now I've read in some sites
That moms put together the outfitsin bundles
That's something my mom did for us when we were little
So that we would know what matched
But one site says put rubber bands around what matches
But doesn't that leave marks?
And do you include socks?
I need a good system... it bugs!

Fires and Crying

Awh, what a sad title

So Friday we went down to the LA temple to do sealings
HM signed us up and convinced his mom to come with us
So that she could watch Sadie while we did them
We finally got off around 6:30pm on Friday
Drove down to the temple, ate dinner on the way
And checked into our "apartment" there at the temple

That night Sadie was up eating or crying
About every hour
And so by morning I was so tired I cried
I really did
But then HM made me take a hot shower
Or rather a really hot bath
And I felt SO SO much better
And we finally took off for the temple

When we got in, we saw our friend Alana, L's aunt
And the first thing she said to us was "So have you heard?"
"oh no, you haven't," she said, "You don't have a TV in those apartments!"
So she tells us:
There are like five different fires going on right now and all the freeways are closed! :)
Oh great...

So we did the sealings
Way cool and totally needed
And then took off in hopes of finding a way home
100_1693
The 5 was closed, the 405 was closed at the 118
Then the 14 was closed
100_1694
And then we got on the 210 and had to take it clear across and up
To Four Corners--outside of Boron
100_1691
Now for those of you not familiar with Btown and it's orientation to CA
That means that we went up and then over basically made a circle
AROUND
where we needed to go
Instead of going straight there
We couldn't
So we drove to the EAST side of it and caught the freeway
That you would normally be on when you were coming back from UT or somewhere like that
Total we were on the road for about SIX HOURS.
100_1692
The last hour was stressful for me
And for everyone else I'm sure
But for me because Sadie had HAD IT with the car and with her seat
And screamed basically the whole last hour
Inbetween small breaks when she would get too tired to cry and would sleep for a few
Otherwise she was not happy
And I can't say that I blame her

We certainly weren't planning on spending our whole Saturday driving
And had thought we would be back by 12 or so that day....
So there is a whole list of things we hadn't done that day
But when we finally got home around 6 or 7
We were all exhausted
And we didn't really get much done

But oh well, at least we made it
And at least our home was still entact
Count your blessings right?
10,000 people were evacutated that day
So at least we were only inconvenienced by the drive
Not by our house burning to the ground
Thank heavens for that
100_1697
(but hey, if it had, we would have had a killer 72 hour kit! Open-mouthed)

Sadie is getting so big these days
100_1655100_1656100_1659100_1678100_1684
I am anxious for her Dr appt this week to see how much she weighs
She has been growing fast lately
She has rolls everywhere Wink

The big news with her lately though is this:
I'm pretty sure she's teething
100_1670
I know she's kinda young but she has all the symptoms:
drooling, fever, fussiness, and chewing everything
I give her these tablet things that dissolve in her mouth
And she is suddenly in a much better mood
She's gotta be teething... I can't think of anything else it would be
So yeah for us....
100_1703
This means she's fussy and miserable and doesn't want to eat or sleep or do anything but have momma hold her every minute...
100_1688100_1672100_1687
*sigh*

Ah-choo...

I think this is so cool...
Extra Large - Dandelion Wishes - Vinyl Wall Decal Graphic Art Sticker Home Decor
But I think I might sneeze every time I walked into my living room! lol...

I don't know if all of my faithful readers are familiar with vinyl
But it's actually pretty cool
Anyway, I got this from my sister in law C's blog
  She's amazing with vinyl stuff
She's the one who made the "Sadie" letters in Sadie's room
So cute
Here's the site if you want to see a few more things:

09 novembre

do you have...???

Okay, so I'm finished
I think
with our 72 hour kit
Last night HM watched Sadie
and I RAN to the store to finish
Like I said
I've had this weird urgency lately
(Sorry I didn't call you L
It was a quick trip and I didn't know if you could go on such short notice)

But anyway, it was crazy
I finally got my bonus for getting my Masters
So I chose to spend it on this
And it's a good thing
This was all a lot more expensive than I thought

And it would have been a whole lot more
But it wasn't
Thanks to Dollar Tree Wink
Awh... it's just a like a commerical..
But SERIOUSLY: so good
It was probably the only time I have every spent $88 at the dollar store...
but hey, there's always firsts right? lol...

We still need another bin
I haven't done the clothes bin yet
But all the small stuff is there
Two full bins ready to be thrown in the back of a truck
at a moment's notice
WHEW...

So you want to see if I got everything?
I played this "game" with HM last night
And found a few things I was missing

Okay, so think of things you use every day:
Give me... oh like 10 or so let's say...
And you just go "Do you have....?"
And fill in the blank
We'll see how my bins hold up...

Man, crazy politics in CA these days huh?
We heard at church today that Prop8 opponents
somehow got a list, not only of who contributed to Prop8
but which of them are Mormon
And are harassing them and plotting ways to get back at them
Can we say odd and scary?
So EQ guys were warned today to be careful
And to be careful around work and school
Because several people were targeted this last week
How messed up is that?

Anyway, they do have reason to target Mormons of course
I mean, Mormons make up 53% of California, didn't you know?
And no other religious group but us
is opposed to Gay marriage
didn't you know?
Tongue out
dumb stuff...

On another politic line
I was rather impressed with Obama's acceptance speech
I cried in fact
I think he seems like he's going to do a good job
I was also comforted by an interview on Colbert Report
Steven interviewed Obama and his wife's law professor from Harvard
And HE said that he thought the Obamas were Republicans....
Guess not though he said
And hey, I mean, it makes sense,
Obama had a hard enough time being a "black man" running for president
Much less a Republican black man...lol... that would have been too much t handle
funny though really, why do people get so wrapped up in that stuff?
Who cares that he is black?

So funny, my 2nd period has quite a few black kids
Particurly this one very vocal girl named London
(and that isn't an internet nickname either...lol)
Anyway, the day after the election she told the class
"Man, why is everyone so excited about Obama? He's black? oooooohhh"
It was funny coming from her :)

I feel encouraged though
I think Obama will do a good job
And maybe things will start to turn around
Who knows?
I must admit though
I know I'm supposed to be Republican
But I wasn't a big fan of McCain
I really wasn't
I voted for him
But honestly I wished there was a 3rd candidate
(and ya, I know, there were others, but whatever)
Because I didn't really like either one
But it's all good
Hopefully things will all even out in the end

72 Hour Kit and news

These last few weeks since Conference
Our family
as well as other familes I'm sure
Have been talking about all the "what if this happens..." scenerios
HM and I have been working on our food storage
But the other day, HM was talking to some people
And they mentioned that while food storage was very good
You also need a 72 hour kit
Because around here, one of our "threats" is the dam breaking
And if that happened,
You would have 45 minutes or less
To grab your stuff and RUN

Hmmm.... now that's worrisome
So that's what I've been working on this last week
It's really amazing really
We talked as a whole family
All the Irishs here in Btown
And did our "Disaster Plan" for where we would meet
and all that

But then putting everything together
I figure
Mostly falls to the women
Not that the men aren't helpful and supportive of it
But really, the moms will be the one to do it
So L and I are working on ours
This week I've made some progress
I've put together just what we have at the house already
Which I was actually impressed at how much we had to put in it
I've also been researching what kind of food to put in it
And what kinds of things to pack
Lots of stuff I never though to add
That I go "oh ya! That should be in there!!!"

It's kinda fun really
And I have felt very motivated
Almost urgently so
to get this done
It's crazy what you need to include and everyday things you don't realize you would need
One site even has a "Kid's survival Kit" list
Of simple things you can pack
So that kids will have things to entertain themselves
It was really good actually
L--this would be so good for Tigger!

So that's my project
Any advice?
Anyone ever put one of these together before?

Breaking news on the house:
yesterday we had a guy come and give us a paper
Telling us that we had 7-45 days to get out of the house
Ya right...
But gave us a number to call
A realtor
To talk about the house and all that
So it finally happened I guess
So now we get to start the process of finding a house
Whether we will get this house
Or whether we buy another one
Or whether we rent for awhile and save more
Who knows...
All kinda scary
With the economy being what it is
It makes me nervous to even apply
Any little thing could mean they won't give us a loan for the house
So we just have to hold our breathes and pray that things work out
And they will
But it's gonna be an interesting time for us
There is this thing called "Cash for Keys"
Where I guess they pay you to get out the house
Can be up to $3500 and I read even more like $5000 depending
So maybe we'll work out something like that
That would help
And we'll see
If we have to move out
If we can get them to let us stay until the new year
Because 45 days is December 23rd...
ya, I don't really feel like moving then....
So pray for us...
Things will all work out I'm sure...

Also, more breaking news :)
Dudey is going on Independant Study on the 17th of this month
His mom is going to "home school" him
And he has an independant study teacher who will come and help him also
He'll be doing this for the rest of the year

This was a plan his mom came up with
She was worried that he wouldn't graduate
(because she barely did and she's worried about Dudey)
So because Dudey was failing four classes
And ended up getting mostly Ds and only failing one...
STILL
He's not doing very good in school
So they are pulling him out
And he's going to work at home
And then get a job and go to work at 3 until whenever
And only be able to hang out with friends on the weekends
That's the plan

Reality?
Hmmm... We'll see what happens I guess
Hopefully it will be good for him
But who knows....
I have my doubts
But hey... maybe?

Happy Halloween

Today is my birthday
It's interesting to be 28 Wink
Kinda odd to get old sometimes...
But so far I have gotten to sleep in
Sit here and do nothing and just play with pictures
And later I get to go on a hot date :)
HM's family wanted to do something for my birthday tonight
But I said no
We have had the entire crew here all yesterday and the day before
And we're going over there tomorrow for Sunday dinner
Lisa's a bit overloaded on family right now
So I opted since it's my birthday to take a day off
Today I get to do whatever I want

So it's been awhile since I posted so here are all our Halloween related pictures:
Trunk or Treat with our Ward:
HM and I were both busy until 5:30
And it started at 6:00
So in that half hour, we managed to:
Make chili to bring
Construct costumes for me, him and Sadie
Gather things to make decorate our trunks
And I thought we did really well!!!
Sadie was... a clown?  Polka dot outfit, spiked hair and red cheeks: what does that make you?  Just cute...
100_1577
She rubbed off all the makeup within about 10 minutes of getting there
So then she just looked like she had a black eye or something:
100_1581
HM was the Karate Kid
100_1575
Who liked to eat chili dogs...lol...
100_1580
And I was a doctor
100_1578
Sadie still doesn't get the picture idea:
100_1584
This was our trunk:
100_1583
I thought it came out amazing for the whole 5 minutes we put into it!!!

Here are some other trunks I thought were pretty good:
100_1585100_1586

Wednesday night we went to a pumpkin patch
The only over on Taft Hwy
And honestly, it was probably the cutest one I have been to yet
100_1594
Much cuter than the one on Oak that we have always gone to before!
We went there at dusk and it was very pretty
But I must admit
It wasn't so much fun when  you don't have any cute kids to take pictures of
I mean I have one
But she's not that excited about pumpkins
100_1602
Or Halloween
100_1592
She mostly just wonders what in the world we are doing....
100_1598
So we took a few pictures
100_1597100_1601
100_1604
But I bet we were only there for about 1/2 hour or 45 minutes
At which point Sadie started to cry
And we were like...eh... let's go...
100_1606
And we went to the Ranch Market
And bought 4 HUGE PUMPKINS
for $11.66
Take that Albertsons....
Thursday  night we had the whole family over here carving pumpkins
I didn't really take any pictures
Everyone else did so I'll have to get some from them
The only one I did take was this one:
100_1607
So funny....L stepped away for a minute
And Tigger decided that he should take over feeding him his applesauce
You can just see Kieran thinking:
Shouldn't someone else be in charge of this????
After much debate
Because we're trying to save money
We had our Halloween party after all
This year we did a Murder Mystery Game
Every done one of those?
I did one once when I was YSA activity person
And it was SO FUN
and I remembered like...Monday night
And went: oh my gosh! Of course!!!!
You buy the program off internet for... $25-$30
And it comes with all the handouts
And you just hand them to everyone
And then they literarlly act out the game
Everyone had a piece of the puzzle
And so you go around and talk to everyone
Make deals, do business, investigate
And try to figure out the mystery
I was the Host/MC so I didn't play
But it went really well
Despite the few..."difficulties" we had
100_1626100_1628
100_1631100_1632
100_1633

The house decorations came out really well too
So cute... probably our best party yet...
So this is what was there
100_1612100_1613
100_1614100_1615
100_1617
But this is more what it really looked like when you turned off the lights:
100_1618100_1622

HM and I's costumes were pretty rushed this year
For the party HM was Death but I stayed a Doctor
Sadie was a lobster
Which was totally cute but super hot
So she wore it for about...5 minutes
And then we had to take it off her
So I'm going to try and take a picture of her in it before we give it back to L
but we'll see

Anyway, but everyone had amazing costumes as always
Especially the two "family" groups we had
Good themeing!!!
My camera was turned to nighttime mode for most of the night
So most of my pics are fuzzy...grr...
But you get the idea...

100_1637
100_1641
100_1646
100_1648

ST and D's costumes were pretty good as always
D's cracked me up though
He cut his shorts this short on purpose
He said these were his Daisy Duke shorts:
hysterical...
100_1649
ST's dress was also really cool and looked like it would be fun to wear:
100_1654
This is my favorite picture of the night
I took this of HM just as he was about to sneeze
but it just looks like he's laughing
So funny....
100_1652
Happy Halloween!!!
