Baby Showers

I get what Baby Showers are for.
1.  Bring me presents so I don't have to buy all this crap myself and
2.  Old ladies get the opportunity to buy cute little baby clothes, something they haven't done for 20 years.

It's great
But man, I just don't like them
It's corny
It's a waste of time
And they make you do weird things

Today I stayed home from school sick, finally.
Since we got home from Utah I have been so sick
Worse sickness so far...
I came home and slept for about 4 hours this morning
And I woke up feeling so much better

But not that good
Not good enough to go to a shower, that's for sure!
I told HM I would though because it's family and I have to go
We even drove all the way across town to buy a present from her registry at Babies'R'us
(who knew that even existed?)

So wish me luck
I might throw up on the way
But hey, hopefully they'll have some good finger food

The problem of Lemons

What does one do with Lemons?

I'm not talking figuratively here either
We have a lemon tree in our backyard
lemon trees
It's the great thing about California

But it's had a great season
And there are close to 100 lemons on the tree...

Just waiting to be picked...

So uh...

What do you do with lemons exactly?
(besides smell them)

There's the obvious choice
Make Lemonade

Okay, but... then what?

More Lemonade?

Are there any cool things you can cook with Lemons as the main ingredient?
I don't know of any...?
Obviously you can use it as a season...
But what do you do with 100 Lemons???

I researched it a little bit and as far as I can tell, you can't can them
You can't really preserve them at all for any long period of time

Any ideas anyone?

By the way
Anyone need some Lemons?

Thanksgiving Adventures

We made it.
We left at 6:30pm last night and made it back home at 3am this morning.

We have unpacked

Started some laundry

Had a wonderful breakfast of French toast, rolls and bacon (thanks momma!)

Dudey gave Andre a bath--he was SO SO dirty from all his adventures this weekend!!!
Afterwards he CRIED and CRIED for some unknown reason and I had to go sit with him and dry out his ears (that's all I could figure was wrong with him?) until he stopped yelping.  Weird, I have never seen him do that!

Anyway, I haven't showered yet Don't tell anyone but that's just because they are all currently occupied.  Boys need them more than girls do anyway right?

We are so happy to be home--traffic was a lot heavier at 2am than you would expect but I guess we weren't the only ones who had the idea of leaving early.  We didn't hit anything major though and made it home in record time--8 hours!

Dudey and Andre slept the whole way cuddled in the (very small) back seat so I think they were the happiest to be home
 dudey asleep
Everyone had a really good time--even Dudey who did more "firsts" than any other weekend in his life so far I think.
He was a bit burnt when we told him about the no cell phone thing but he survived.
I liked it actually because his phone bugs at times.  It's like some adult pacifier that he has to constantly be on and it's like he's in some other media world and not in this one... not good when you're trying to have a conversation with him or get him to participate in this thing called LIFE.
So I wasn't upset about it Open-mouthed but he was. Oh well though, he survived.

So here are some pictures of MOST of the things we did besides the obvious things of course like eat too much

Dudey and HM got to milk a cow:
the city boys

They each took a side, so here is HM:
shawn milking
And here is Dudey:
dudey milking
(next time remind them to have them turn around so you can see their faces!!!)

Then after a few mninutes, they stepped aside and let the pros milk:
better milkers
And they just stared at how good they were... and how bad they had been... lol
milking watching
Andre couldn't figure out what in the world we were doing and kept trying to break in to see:
andre milking

The next day we got to go haul hay!
We drove to Loa to get it, my parents in the truck and the rest of us piled into our car.  We all bundled up and HM and I took our pictures:
shawntake my picwhats up
cute us
We took one and didn't like it so we tried again... and again.... and again... until HM exclaimed, hey this isn't all about you okay? lol...
all meall you
And we finally got a good one: Open-mouthed
all you2

We finally got there and pulled up and put the hay on the truck:
First Dudey--we instructed him to do a Power Clean and he did pretty well :)
(he wasn't at all happy about getting hay all over him so that was it for him!) lol...poor city boy...
dudey hayboys hay
Then HM did a couple, and had a lot more fun with it than Dudey I think Tongue out:
shawn hayshawn hay2
The thing you learn when you haul hay is that you get hay ALL OVER YOU--inside every part of any clothes you are wearing! Crying
coveredcovered2
My dad of course is a pro even as an "older man" he can throw with the best of them and everyone else of course also helped Wink
daddy hayloading

Mostly we just had a good time though.
Both HM and Dudey said they had a great time and for that I am grateful.
J and J--my little sister and her husband--were there on Thanksgiving Day
and so were Nacho and his wife and their baby--who I had never seen
The day after Thanksgiving we had ANOTHER dinner with ST (my sister ST) and her family and I got to see my new neice Lydia--so cute!
Jenny really liked Dudey according to HM and they sat and chatted for awhile before dinner Smile
kids
The first dinner we had 14 people
The second dinner we had 17 people (but littler)
And we didn't even cook any extra food! The second dinner was all leftovers!
We worked on this puzzle for hours but it was hard because we kept having to take it off the table for the dinners and it would get all messed up and and then we would have it put it together again and again.... we had the whole thing done by the time we left except a space at the top.
puzzle

Dudey, HM and I also got to herd the piglets--a very funny experience!--when they got out. Dudey especially liked that.  They are so little!  They got out of their pens and we had to herd them back and we did except for one got away and Dudey and I chased that little thing for FOREVER--pigs are fast man! I finally grabbed it when it tried to escape into one of the other pens.

I would say that the FUNNIEST part of the whole trip, something that we are still making jokes about, is what happened AT NIGHT.
The first night, we crashed at my brother Nacho's house: no major events there
The second night, we went down the canyon and stayed at the Days Inn at the bottom of the hill.
At 3am, we were awakened by what sounded like a small puppy crying
and crying
and crying
and crying
Repeating the same sound every 5 seconds
A high pitchd whine and then two cries
for HOURS
and HOURS
HM finally got up and went to the front desk
And conveniently
the lady was "out to lunch"
HM said it was SO LOUD once you got outside
It sounded like it was coming from the room next to us
But really, it was from the floor above us
You could hear it all through the hotel!!!
So we didn't really sleep much for the rest of the night
We turned the TV on and eventually we all fell back asleep
Unfortunately though, that meant we slept in longer than we planned and we missed saying goodbye to J and J--sorry! Confused
We figure that it was actually a couple of cats that were making that sounds and WHY their owners didn't make them SHUT UP is beyond me!

The third night, we stayed at the Grass Valley Inn in Koosharem--the little town by my parent's house
They didn't allow dogs so we left Andre at my parent's and all was well until about 6AM
See, the walls in this motel are very thin
And so you can hear just about everything in the room next to you
Like if they have the TV on for example
...Or if they are talking...
...Or laughing...
Or say... having loud, gross, talkative role-playing sex for hours Disappointed
LOL
I woke up last
(of the three of us--Dudey was right by the door and heard the whole thing)
and I thought at first that there was a whole bunch of people getting ready to go for the day?
I mean it was LOUD

I heard the lady say:
"I'm going to call the police on you baby"
and I thought, what in the world is going on over there????!!!!

And just then, Dudey kinda sat up and says:
"Is this really happening???"
We all just BUST UP LAUGHING
really loud and we couldn't stop

And it got real quiet next door
HM and Dudey started repeating all the things that they had heard and laughing even harder
I mean we were crying laughing so hard at all the things they had been saying!!!
It was just too funny
After that they got up and took showers and left real quickly
and we tried, as best we could, to go back to sleep. Smile

I think that pretty much clenched our decision to leave Sat. night instead of Sunday morning Smile
Anyway, overall, it was a VERY good Thanksgiving
Thanks to everyone who came--it was so good to see you and be able to spend time with you
We don't get to see everyone very often so it was really nice of all of you to come
Good Times

The Connections

It's funny.

I've never been pregnant before and so while in many ways this is old news to many MANY women, it's all new to me.

I feel like an explorer who is just discovering that there is another continent and I'm putting my flag down to settle it even though a city already exists there... does that make sense?

Anyway, I go to this site called Baby Center and it tells me what is happening this week and it's interesting to connect what is happening to how I feel.  I was reading what happened this last week and I thought,

Man! That's why I felt so sick!

My baby was freaking growing a face and elbows!

 Baby Smiley Baby With Bear

So just so you can see too

(because you're so interested I'm sure)

this is what happened with my baby this week:

(reading these always makes me want to go eat a couple apples or something! When you consider all the things that could possibly go wrong, it's really a miracle anyone is born normal!)

Week Seven

  • Elbows form - Again, taking a peek inside you could see your baby's fascination with bending and flexing. Later you will swear you can enlist your child as the star of the next "Karate Kid" movie!
  • Fingers start to develop - These digits often become your baby's first toy!
  • Feet start to appear with tiny notches for the toes - It is fascinating that at less than a half inch, your little guy (or gal) already is leaving "footprints" on your heart!
  • Ears eyes and nose start to appear - Although they may resemble an alien life form, these all "shift" soon enough into a more normal appearance. (thank goodness!)
  • Intestines start to form in the umbilical cord - Did you know that initially the intestines are not formed inside your baby's body?
  • Teeth begin to develop under the gums - Thankfully, right now you won't be dealing with teething pain!

Getting there

Well we are in process of coming for Thanksgiving to Utah and I must say, it was much easier to just get myself to places and now I'm packing me plus trying to plan for a husband, a 15 year old and a dog that has gotten humungous!

Add in there a bit of morning sickness,
and the 15 year old just inviting his little girlfriend over for the afternoon
(so I have to stay here because last time she was here and we weren't for about 1/2 hour and her mother freaked out... so I have to stay here and make sure they are chaperoned and all...gr...)
And HM have his first soccer (as a ref not a player) tonight so he's gone all day
And six classes of anxious, antsy teenagers
And wah-lah... such fun times.
 Turkey Shoot

I am excited for Thanksgiving and going home, I hope we have a good time
It'll be fun for me, but this is Dudey's first trip to Utah and shh... we didn't tell him that his cell phone won't work at the parent's house Smile  He averages oh... like 6,000 text messages a month so he might be kinda unhappy but hopefully he'll learn to cope. lol... We aren't planning on telling him until we are on the road...

Anyway, we'll see how he does.  This will be his first real interaction with the family and so I hope it goes well.  I love Dude to death but he can be quite the obstinate teenager at times so cross your fingers!

Videos of Dudey kicking

These are some videos of Dudey kicking!
This is him kicking off:

They tried this play ONCE this season and well, they never did it again because you can see how well it worked :)

Singing Karaoke on Halloween

K, here is a video of HM and I singing "Summer Nights" from 'Grease'...
...in our costumes...
...on Halloween...
It cracks me up and we don't sing very well but it's funny.
The video is kinda grainy but oh well... you get the idea :)
Enjoy!
(hope it works!)

Video: Singing "summer Nights"

More Halloween stuff...

Andre's costume was a little small for him but he sure looked cute! lol...

See, now you can really see what our costumes looked like:

(looking back now, it's funny where the orbs are in this last picture considering I found out I was pregnant the next day huh?)

We won 1st Place for Best Overall costume :)
DSCN3573DSCN3568
ST and D's costumes--totally homemade!--won most Original Costume
DSCN3520DSCN3533
Dudey is so adorable--this was the extent of his costume for about an hour before he took off to hang out with his friends.  We tried to get him to wear just some white BVDs and say he was Captain Underpants Surprised but he wouldn't do it! I don't know why not... lol... So I guess he was just a cute kid in a cape.
DSCN3521
Again, you can see this a bit better--they won the Funniest Costume
DSCN3528DSCN3532
Some other costumes: some music friends of ours--and STs and their little boy.  He was a rockstar, she was an artist and I think their boy was just Cute :)
DSCN3531
This is HM's youngest brother Chad.  He was a rock star that I don't know that I'm sure HM would be appalled that I didn't know :) haha...

And in the end, dry ice is just too fun to play with :)

Welcome to the world!

Wow, well I'm not sure what the sudden flood was, but now it seems everyone in my family has a blog!
So minus my parents--who I think I might start taking bets on when they will ever get a blog...any takers?--and my little brothers who still live at home, every other sibling that is away from home save one brother has one! That's amazing! I've had one for two years now (ahem...) and I must say I always wished that other people did so I could keep up with my family in Utah and now I can!

Welcome to my oldest sister Stefanie and family:

Welcome to my younger brother Chris and family:

Thanks for the pictures and the stories--it's nice to hear from you all the time now!

Halloween Party

For the second year in a row, we threw a Halloween Party at our house and I think this was the best one ever!
The costumes were amazing
The food actually came out well--despite some difficulties
The games were fun, short and entertaining
And we had TONS and TONS of tricker treaters who were so so cute and funny.

See below for the full explanation:
1.  HM and I had a hard time thinking of what we were going to be for a long time.  I had a lot of ideas but none that we really wanted to be and none that we BOTH liked.  Finally, we decided to look online for some ideas and HM found one right off that he was just DYING to be.  Now, please note that HE chose our costumes and I liked them but my costume... well, was uh... the shortest skirt I have ever worn in my life :)

dog and beth

This is the only pic I have right now because ST took most of the pictures but can you guess what we are???

DOG the bounty Hunter! And I am his wife, Beth Dog :)

The funny thing is that the day AFTER Halloween DOG's show was cut from the Network for calling his son's girlfriend the N word :) lol... ah, yikes...

Anyway, other costumes were:

L--who is due in 11 weeks--this is so cute! She was this:

lacey oven

The oven's timer said: 11 Weeks.  Cute huh!?

And what was even more hysterical was what her husband was:

the bun maker

haha...

HM's parents--he didn't wear a cross because he said he was a Mormon priest :)

priest nun

And L's cousin--I thought this was super cute except for the fact that the flippers on her arms made it so she couldn't bend them and therefore couldn't eat! lol

brandy

I don't have a picture of both of them but ST and D were Dutch yoddlers.  This is her costume (he's under the TP)

darren mummy

One of the best games that we play is the Mummy game.  One partner mummifies the other with TP and they get prizes for who does it the fastest and the best:

brandy mummylacey mummny

...more pictures to follow...

Our tricker treaters were so cute though

This one little guy was a skeleton and we have a skeleton hanging on our door.  I gave him his candy--he was maybe 2 years old--and then he points at the skeleton and looks at his parents and they were like "Ya, that's what you are huH?" He nodded and then flexed his arms and growled at it. lol...  Then he turns to me (after apparently being satifsfied that he had conquered the skeleton) and goes "Appeee Alloweeeee!" and walked away. lol...

Funny

Ah Sunday mornings... you gotta love them...

We've been pregnant (well, KNOWN we were pregnant) for a whole 4 days now.  And there's already a few things that make me laugh:
1.  HM has already asked me, very concerned, where the baby is going to live?  Should be rearrange the house and make the office into their room??? Maybe we should do that this weekend???
Honey, we still got a good year to decide that... we'll see, don't worry Smile

2.  We got about an hour until we have to leave--should we go buy some things for the baby?
Ha ha... like what? The baby isn't even really conscious yet! It's only 4 weeks old! How about we buy something for the Mom? Open-mouthed
3. In visiting friends this weekend, I talked to one lady with a 6 week old little boy, one who is pregnant and one with a 2 year old.  All of them, as soon as you tell them you are pregnant, are SO EXCITED for you--which is cool.  It's funny though that when the conversation turns to "Have you been sick?" and I say yes, they say, well don't worry, it'll pass... IN A FEW MONTHS. lol... ya thanks...

4.  And lastly, my mom told me to take B6 to help with morning sickness and I don't know if I've just felt better by coincidence but since I've been taking it, I've felt SO much better!  Which is good because HM seems at a loss at how to help me at times because he can't feed me or bring me something special.  So he sits there and eats it himself Smile and feels bad. haha... Now I see why men gain "sympathy" weight with their wives... haha...

WELTS

HM and Dudey are HYSTERICAL

I'm sitting here listening to them laughing and I have to tell you

They have this game they play...

Dudey learned it from his friends and played it until 3am one night with them and came home and told us about it and HM and him have been playing it ever since.

This is how the game goes:
It's called WELTS--for a very good reason!
You take off the net of a ping pong table
And you put the paddles on the end of the table on each side so the handle sticks out
Then each player has to bounce the ping pong ball--two bounces--across the table and try to hit the paddle
If you hit the paddle part, that's one
If you hit the handle, that's two
If you hit either one, your partner has to do the same or they lose that turn
When you lose, you take off your shirt
Stand with your back to your opponent and they get to bounce the ball on the table and then
hit the ball as hard as they can at your back
There are different rules, but HM and Dudey play that whoever gets 5 Welts on their back first loses.
And they are big welts too--big circles all over that stay there for hours...
It's horrible but very funny to watch--especially those two!!

Even funnier is that Andre "plays" with them and every time a ball falls on the floor, he runs and grabs it and keeps it in his mouth and they have to wrestle him to the ground and pry it out of his mouth... too funny....

Happy Birthday to me

Happy Birthday to me!
Well, Happy Birthday on Thursday but still...
It was a good birthday overall I guess.
I got a very good birthday present.
I found out the morning of my birthday that
I'm pregnant!
I am so excited!!!

I took a pregnancy test and when HM finally got up I had a bunch of things taped to the mirror: a couple of pictures I had drawn the day before at school (that's another story) and then he had asked me to write down what I wanted for my birthday and so I did (the day before) and that morning at the very bottom of the list I added:
"Get Pregnant"
And then I put a big check next to it and taped the test next to it so he could see

So he got up and glanced at it and tried to go back to bed

No, I said, you have to read it!

So he did... one painfully slow line at a time... until he finally got to the bottom and then he said, hmm, you really want to get pregnant huh? That's cool babe....

NO, I said, I don't WANT to get pregnant, I AM pregnant!!!

You are really? (he looked back at the mirror) oh, sorry, is that what that means???

So my little presentation didn't work too well as he was mostly still asleep but hey, he got it eventually Wink

Later, he dragged Dudey in there and said to him, Okay, let's see if you are more awake than I was and can figure this out.  Dudey of course figured it out in a second and was like: "She is really!??" haha...

It's interesting though now that I am really pregnant and I KNOW I really am, all these people are telling me that "They knew I was"
So here are a few unofficial ways, according to people around here, that you know when someone is pregnant:

1.  They start breaking things: on Halloween (the day before I found out) I broke the glass in a frame on our coffee table and then later broke a kitchen glass (I've had those glasses for 2+ years now and never had one break!)  The glass broke at the party and HM's dad started on this long thing about how his wife would break things like crazy right before they found out she was pregnant and that was how he always knew.  "Anything you want to tell us???" he asked me.  "I'm not telling you nothing..." I told me smiling (because I had already been sick with what I thought was morning sickness for a good 2 weeks but couldn't prove it yet)

2.  You just KNOW:  L's mother tells us yesterday that she saw me at Stake Conference two weeks ago and she thought to herself: She's pregnant.  According to L and CR she does that often and is often able to predict things like that very accurately.

3.  You lean over to your friend while you are both looking at your wife and say "I think my wife's pregnant" and it is so.  LOL... That was the funniest one I thought.  HM said he just knew it the night before and had said so to his friend. (so you didn't know because I had been sick for two weeks, but suddently mentioning it to your friend you finally believe it's true? lol...)

Anyway, so according to this baby calendar on www.babycenter.com
I am 4 weeks along
And I'm due around July 9th
We hope it's a girl Girl
